Washington Square Park early November
Yesterday was a warm, 75 degree November day in the New York area. I took my camera to Washington Square Park in Greenwich Village, New York City, one of my favorite places in the world. On any given day one can see and be part of a cross-section of humanity, from ordinary people enjoying a pleasant day to street musicians, artists, chess players and performers showing off their talents. It is open, tolerant and a great place to see slices of life. I love going there because I never know who or what I’m going to find.
The chess lesson
Washington Square Park in New York City is one of my favorite places. There is a corner of the park known for its chess players and hustlers. Recently I spotted this pro teaching a young man some of the finer points of the game.
Bubbles in the Park
I was in Washington Square Park, one of my favorite places to photograph, on one of the rare warm and sunny days that the New York metro area has had this spring, when I came upon this person delighting the kids with her bubble making net.
People of Washington Square Park
It is a cold December day in New Jersey so I thought I would visit one of my favorite places, Washington Square Park in New York City in the summertime. It is one of the most vibrant and eclectic places in the city. On any given day one can hang out among street musicians, the pigeon man, the never-ending chess game, tourists of all shapes, sizes and colors, NYU college students, and ordinary people who live in the West Village.
Washington Square Park NYC
Washington Square Park in NYC on a warm sunny day is one of my favorite places. It is populated by gentle anarchists. It is a place where people gather to enjoy the sun, the day and the world. It is a place where people enjoy and encourage their own and others’ eccentricities. On any given day you might see
a fairy princess eating a hot dog
assorted characters
a duel
and musicians entertaining passers by.
