Ranas and Toluquilla Mexico

Ranas (meaning Frog) and Toluquilla are ancient cities in the Sierra Gorda range about 93 km from Queretaro near the village of San Joaquin. They were occupied from about 200 CE until 1300 CE. Both cities sit atop mountains that command the countryside overlooking the valley and the country below. Both cities controlled ancient trade routes across Mexico.  In the midst of the forest we got a feeling of mystery and the spirits of the people who lived and worshipped there.  Here are some images that I hope capture the essence:
